The Dorothy and Sidney Millman Respite Center is a state licensed adult day program
serving seniors with Alzheimer’s Disease and other memory impairments. This program,
located in Walnut Creek, is sponsored by the Contra Costa Jewish Community Center
and Acalanes Adult Education, and offers activities that inspire and motivate adults with
memory loss.
Socialization amongst participants, with special attention given to each individual’s needs and interests, is an important part of each daily program.
One by one Friendship Foundation volunteers introduce their animals and share information about their special pet. Then all the teams join the circle of seniors and allow their pups to meet and greet each person.
Enthusiasm, compassion, patience, sincerity, a cheerful smile and a desire to work with memory impaired individuals are traits that make volunteers at the J.C.C. day respite program a resounding success.
