Willow Rock Center (WRC) was created for Alameda County adolescents, ages 12 – 17 years old, experiencing high levels of distress who can benefit from a structured, safe environment. This is a short term program, average stay three to seven days, designed to reduce and stabilize acute psychiatric symptoms with an emphasis on working the recovery process as a means of returning to the community.
WRC has three components: a 23 hour crises response service; an acute inpatient program for individuals who are at imminent risk of harm to self or others; and an outpatient/transition back to the community program.
Whether their dogs perform amazing tricks or snuggle up for a prolonged petting session our volunteer teams are always met with enthusiasm during our visits to the WRC inpatient program.
Staff members tell us these monthly Friday afternoon animal assisted interactions are one of their most popular groups.
This rewarding visit gives us the opportunity to provide a brief respite to teens during a difficult and distressing time in their lives.
Willow Rock Center is located at 2050 Fairmont Drive in San Leandro on the Alameda County campus that includes John George Psychiatric Pavilion and Fairmont Hospital.
